Read my review of the new video game Hellgate: London
I’m filing this one under disappointment. Hellgate: London has been hyped as the next Diablo, with hack n’ slash gameplay, constantly changing levels, and cool multiplayer. Well, the game certaintly does deliver in the hack n’ slash department, but in a bad sort of way. Before I go into the games real short coming I’ll talk about the other stuff in the game real quickly. The sound is great, the story is absent (but who cares in a game like this anyway) and the graphics are average. Now, as I stated before, this game was being hyped as the next Diablo, and in a lot of ways it pretty much follows the exact same formula that Diablo did so well. Point and click hack n’ slash through hordes of demons in a post apocalyptic London. It’s pretty much everything Diablo did (other then the London thing), so why the hell is this game so boring and repetitive? I only come up with one absolutely crucial thing. The character animations. One thing that I see far to often in games is a poorly put together character animation. In Hellgate: London, you character basically has only two types of sword swings (back and forth), one type of gun stance when shooting and unexciting casting movements. This may sound trivial to a game, but it really is integral. If your character looks goofy and half interested when swingy their sword, it detracts from the game in a major way. And that’s the problem that Hellgate: London has in abundance. Let me give you an example: when you run and attack at the same time with a sword, your character hops. Yes, they hop. When you press forward and attack the same time, your character does a little hop and swings their sword. And if you want to keep moving forward and attacking, your character keeps hoping. So you end up doing little bunny foofoo hops down the street when you are trying to run and attack. It’s possibly one of the most fucking annoying things I have ever experienced in a game. So anyway, I don’t want to spend to much time on this review because frankly, the game sucks and isn’t worth your time. Definitely not worth your money. -Awesome McCrunchfist Here's the trailer for Hellgate: London as posted on YouTube:
